Board Appreciation Month

The Arkansas School Boards Association (ASBA) announced that January is Arkansas's School Board Member Recognition Month.  School board members play an essential role in our community. Farmington Public Schools will join other districts in Arkansas in celebration of our board by thanking them for the time, talents, and knowledge they bring to our district and for their commitment to the families and children of our community.

“Our board members assume a crucial role in representing our students and advocating for public education,” said Superintendent Jon Laffoon. “We are very proud of our board members and are appreciative of the time they dedicate to ensuring the best for our students. Our district has been fortunate to receive bonuses and two raises in the last four years while adding on both elementary campuses and building a new addition at the junior high. To be able to build and incentivize staff salaries at the same time is rare.  Also, our board approved our energy savings project, which has saved the district over $176,000 dollars since it was completed last year. The board members always work to impact our students positively, and their leadership has been outstanding.” Arkansas School Board Recognition Month is a great time to recognize them and celebrate their accomplishments.”

Mr. Laffoon added that elected school board members give Farmington citizens a voice in education decision-making. “The board gives our community a voice in our schools, and that is indicative by our record growth this past year. With over 5% growth this year, Farmington was the fastest-growing district in our region. While we make a special effort to show our appreciation in January, their contribution is a year-round commitment.” We appreciate our board members!
