As of 12:00PM, Tuesday July 21st, the Farmington School District has received notification of an additional three confirmed positive cases of Covid-19 concerning two of our student athletes and one of our coaches. This brings the total to four student athletes and one coach that have a confirmed positive test. Three of these cases are within the same household. The Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) has been notified and they are contacting anyone identified as a close contact.
Currently the four affected student-athletes and coach are confined to two teams. Parents of other students that do not meet the criteria of close contact, as defined by ADH, on those teams have been contacted as well. We have suspended all activities within those two sports indefinitely since the first positive test report from ADH. For the privacy of students and staff, and by law, Farmington School District cannot share personal information. All facilities that could have possibly been affected were closed and disinfected. Those facilities are reopening as they are cleaned thoroughly.
We are currently allowing unaffected sports to workout under the “Phase 1 Return to Team Sports Guidelines” that have been set forth by the Arkansas Activities Association and Arkansas Department of Health. These guidelines have been in place since June 1, 2020. These guidelines include but are not limited to some of the following: Face coverings for all coaches, temperature checks and COVID questionnaires for all coaches and athletes before entering facilities, distancing according to ADH indoor/outdoor guidelines, small groupings for indoor sports, and sanitizing equipment.
We are committed to providing a safe environment for our students and staff, and will continue to follow the guidance provided by the Arkansas Department of Health, Centers for Disease Control, Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and the Arkansas Activities Association. #ourstudentsareworthit #CardinalNation
