Two outstanding students from Farmington High School have been recognized for their exceptional academic achievements by advancing to the Finalist standing in the prestigious National Merit Scholarship Program.

Miles Batson and Taylor Conran, both seniors at Farmington High, were selected from among 16,000 Semifinalists across the nation for their remarkable performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Their advancement to Finalist status is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and intellect.

Miles and Taylor have long been recognized for their commitment to academic excellence. In addition to their strong performance on standardized tests, both students have demonstrated leadership in various extracurricular activities, contributing positively to their school community. Miles has been a long serving percussionist for the award winning Farmington Cardinal band while Taylor helped carry the Farmington Cardinal football team to the 5A State Championship title game.

"We are incredibly proud of Taylor and Miles for their achievements," said Principal Jon Purifoy. "Their success is a testament to their hard work, their supportive families, and the amazing teachers we have at Farmington."

The National Merit Scholarship Program, which began in 1955, recognizes high-achieving students based on their PSAT/NMSQT scores, academic records, and other factors. Finalists like Miles and Taylor are now eligible for one of the thousands of scholarships awarded annually through the program, which will help them further their education at top colleges and universities.

Both students have expressed their excitement about advancing to this stage and are eager to pursue their college aspirations. Taylor plans to pursue a degree in political science and eventually obtain his Juris Doctor degree while Miles is still exploring his options but considering engineering or the social sciences.
